Spider veins are hair thin clusters of unessential blood vessels that are located near the surface of the skin that have expanded and become visible. Several factors may trigger their appearance including genetic makeup, pregnancy, excess exposure to sun, weight gain, certain medications, birth control pills, as well as direct trauma to the skin.
Most things that are helpful for varicose veins will also be helpful for Spider Veins and are applied both topically and internally.
Cayenne can be used internally as well as Oak Bark tea, but probably not during pregnancy as the cayenne may make the baby quite "active".
Topically you can use a fomentation of Oak Bark tea. Simply soak flannel or another natural fiber in a strong tea and wrap around the area, cover it with plastic wrap and leave on over night.
Bayberry is also very effective topically in a very strong tea. Brew as normal, 1 tsp. to a cup of boiling water, steep 3-5 minutes, strain, and then simmer gently to half the original amount. Then apply as a fomentation.
While the topical remedies should be safe during pregnancy, you might want to wait until after the birth to use the formulas both internally and externally.
The Comfrey & Oak Tea is available from The Herb Finder as well as the Cayenne, for more information on both visit our online catalog.
