Cascara Sagrada is an excellent herb to be used to help promote elimination, but really should not be used by itself. Most herbs work better in combination with other herbs, Cascara Sagrada is definitely one of them. Used alone it can cause griping, and extended use of the single herb can cause dependency. While the Cascara Sagrada will stimulate peristaltic movement and help to rejuvenate the peristaltic muscle, it is not the best choice for healing damaged nerves.
For normal, safe, healthy elimination, I recommend the Turkey Rhubarb Colon Formula offered by The Herb Finder. For 15 years this formula has helped thousands of people overcome chronic constipation and to help rebuild damaged muscles in the colon. It combines the Cascara Sagrada with several other herbs to promote a healthy colon. For more information on the Turkey Rhubarb formula and colon problems, check out the Special Report on Colon Problems on our website.
For the nerve damage, you may consider using a formula containing herbs that are specifically helpful in rebuilding damaged nerves. I would suggest the Nervine formula, it can help to target the mylon sheath that surrounds the nerves, and begin the healing process. Additional information and an ingredients list on the Nervine formula are available in our on line catalog.
As I am not sure exactly how GI Autonomic Neuropathy effects the brain, the following formulas may be beneficial in specifically improving nerve function in the brain.
The B&B formula combines the nerve healing and stimulating properties of both Black and Blue Cohosh and the healing properties of Skullcap and Lobelia in an tincture to be put into the ears and rubbed behind the ears to stimulate motor nerve function.
The Memory formula contains Ginkgo Biloba which will help to specifically improve circulation to the central nervous system. Better circulation, provides faster, and improved healing.
