Autonomic Neuropathy

I recently was diagnosed with GI Autonomic Neuropathy, in which the central nervous system no longer relays messages to the brain regarding elimination. I was told about cascara sagrada by a friend, and was wondering if this would be helpful to regenerate the nerves as well as help in elimination? Does anybody know?
