That is the first time I have heard of that kind of reaction to cayenne. It is most probably working to expel mucous from your husbands system as a cleansing action, and once it’s done- he’ll probably feel great.
The only other reason that I can find is that capsaicin (one of the active compounds in cayenne) has a gastro protective effect against gastric mucousal injury caused by aspirin. If your husband takes aspirin regularly this might be the source of the reaction.
