Herbs for sinus troubles

There are many herbs commonly used for sinus infections & upper respriatory disfunction. Below are a few of the most highly recommended herbs that grow easily in most areas.

Brigham Tea (Mormon Tea, Ma Haung) is commonly found through out the Western states and can be used in tea form to help alleviate congestion by dialating the bronchioles. It will increase circulation and heart rate and should not be used before bedtime, or by anyone with high blood pressure, Long term use of the single herb is not recommended. Collection of this plant in the wild will prove easier than trying to grow it as it can become a rather large bush, and is quite common along roadsides and other areas of desert.

Mullein strengthens the sinuses and allows for free breathing. it also provides mucilaginous protection to mucus surfaces inhibiting the absorption of allergens though mucous membranes. In addition it is soothing to any inflammation and relieves pain.
Cultivation is easy as this plant is a hardy biennial. It requires sowing in very ordinary soil, and kept free from weeds.

Thyme has been reported to remove mucus from the head and lungs. Thyme has disinfectant and germicidal effects on diseases of the upper respiratory passages.
Cultivation is rather easy as Garden Thyme is a hardy plant. Sow about the middle of March or early April in dry, mild weather. Spread moderately thin in shallow drills about 1/2 inch deep & 8-9 inches apart, in good, light soil in a warm position. Thyme dislikes excess water and can survive the severest of cold weather.

One of the best herbs for sinus trouble is Golden Seal unfortunately is it very difficult to cultivate and a supply of live roots hard to find.
