Bilberry has anthocyanins associated with
P-Vitamin (bioflavoniod) functions in the berries of the plant. These help to strengthen the capillaries in the peripheral circulation, which reduces the permeability of the capillary membranes. This might indeed be useful in combating macular degeneration, but no specific research has been done on the use of Bilberry in this manner yet.
While we do not use Bilberry as a single herb, it certainly may be used that way. When used by itself the typical daily usage is ½ gm of the standardized extract.
